Before you pick up the phone to schedule an adoption visit, please take a few minutes to read and consider our adoption policies:

1) The Cat Shelter wants every adoption to be a successful one, for both the cat and the adopter!
The Cat Shelter makes every attempt to ensure each and every cat and kitten adopted from The Shelter goes to a safe, loving, responsible, and lifelong home. Please check out our link-page Are You Ready To Adopt?. Make sure you've considered all the issues before committing to the care of a companion animal who may be a member of your family for the next ten years, or longer. Impulse adoptions can end in disaster for you and your new feline companion.

2) The Cat Shelter is committed to a spay/neuter program to end the tragic cycle of neglected, unwanted cats.
All cats over six months of age are routinely spayed or neutered when they enter The Shelter. We receive a discount on the cost of these surgeries. The Cat Shelter does not charge an adoption fee. Instead, we ask for a donation to cover our cost of the spay ($106) or neuter ($60). Of course, we gratefully accept any donations in excess of the spay/neuter cost, since The Cat Shelter relies completely on donations to cover operating expenses.

3) The Cat Shelter requires ALL kittens to be spayed or neutered when six months old.
If you adopt a kitten from The Cat Shelter, you must sign an agreement to have the kitten spayed or neutered when it is six months old, (check with your veterinarian for the current cost of the surgery). We also request that you make a donation to The Cat Shelter to help us continue to help homeless cats and kittens.

4) The Cat Shelter expects adopters to allow the cat or kitten plenty of time to adjust to the new home
This is especially important when there are other animals in the home. Some cats are shy or nervous, and may take longer to adjust.

5) The Cat Shelter will help in any way possible if you are experiencing problems making the adoption work.
Just phone.

6) If an adoption just doesn't work out, even after you've given it your best try, the adopted cat or kitten is welcome back at The Shelter.
Please keep in touch if you are having problems.
